Qualcomm launches new SD 888 SoC for 2021 flagships


Qualcomm debuts their new SD 888 for 2021 flagships through a virtual keynote on 2 Dec. Its the successor of the SD865 SoC and was speculated to be named as the SD 875 up until the keynote.
The new SoC has significant improvements over last years SD 865.

The new chip has the X60 5g modem built-in rather as a separate unit like last year and will support both sub6 waves and mmWaves of 5g. The new chip also has a new ISP for improved camera performance and computational photography. The next-Gen spectra ISP is capable of capturing photos and videos upto 2.7 gigapixels per second. That is 120 shots of 12 megapixel images per second and is 35% faster than last year.

For gamers, Qualcomm's third-gen elite gaming engine is capable of desktop forwarding , framerates upto 144 fps and has updatable GPU drivers. The SD888 SoC has a sixth-gen Ai engine which comes with a redesigned hexagon processor to deliver new Ai performance.

Oem's like OnePlus, Asus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Motorola, Realme etc are expected to introduce their 2021 flagships with the new SD 888.
